Many trans and gender non-conforming (TGNC) people have relied on mutual aid crowdfunding to close the gender affirming care (GAC) gap. However, as the laws and narratives continue to stack against us and corporate commitments run dry, the success of these campaigns is limited.

Pre-Pandemic, most campaigns only reached 24% of their goal.

Most of us fundraise in a state of panic. Crowdfunding is outreach driven. Add the emotional weight and trauma from marginalization and it’s hell to connect to even the most supportive audience.

Many of the guides from crowdfunding platforms and LGBTQ organizations struggled with authentic tone. They’re presented in a dry, clinical manner or with information that’s too basic. Little to nothing to about emotional weight is ever included.

There are no tutorials on YouTube about GAC crowdfunding. In 2024, that’s quite an indicator of lack. There are no GAC crowdfunding instructors, cis or trans.
